Hello. My computer is being sent off for repair, but I've got the hard drive in a compact USB device. The problem is that because I had to type a password to log onto my other computer, it won't now let me access these files, and when I change the attributes so the drive isn't read only, it still doesn't let me in. It changes them back. Please tell me how I can access my files.
You need to take ownership of your profile.
Properties > security > advanced > owner > tick all the boxes and say yes to everything that it asks.
Works best under xp pro; you need to do a bit of hacking to view the security tab under xp home.
